"People start to heal the moment they feel heard"

Cheryl Richardson

A very warm welcome to you...
6th May 2025
Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my website. My name is Claire and I am a fully qualified and experienced Humanistic and Integrative counsellor working from my main private practice nr Otterbourne and also from an additional practice in central Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh. Both locations are within easy reach of Eastleigh; Romsey; Southampton and Winchester surrounding areas with good public transport connections and parking available. My practice offers you a safe, warm, nonjudgmental and professional service for a wide range of issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems and many more for all aged 18 years and above.

How can counselling help?

Life can certainly be challenging at times and if you feel like you are struggling, it could help to talk it through with someone who is not a friend or family member, someone who will not tell you what you 'should' or 'should not' do.  It might be something you have been struggling with for a while or a more recent event that has upset you? Whatever is going on for you, you do not have to face this alone. Talking to a professional counsellor can help in many ways including:
  • Improve mental health and well-being
  • Explore and understand your thoughts and feelings
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Set boundaries
  • Identify unhelpful thinking/behavioural patters or themes
  • Gain clarity, new insights and fresh perspectives
  • Find meaning in experiences
  • Gain greater self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Develop coping strategies
  • Improve relationships
  • Goal setting
  • Regain a sense of control

A flexible approach to therapy

My therapeutic approach has been described as supportive, warm, collaborative and creative and is ultimately underpinned by my passion for helping others. I provide the space and environment necessary for personal growth and change to occur, where you are free to explore your inner most thoughts and feelings confidentially, safely and without judgement. As a Humanistic and Integrative counsellor, I work within a flexible framework which enables me to draw from a wide range of skills and techniques, acquired from the study of several core counselling modalities. These include Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA) and Existential approaches. This essentially means that I am able to tailor your counselling according to your needs, complimenting your unique, individual self.

Complimentary 30 minute initial assessment

Central to counselling is the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor, therefore choosing the right counsellor is an important and individual decision. It can take time to find the right person to share your journey with and may at times feel confusing or overwhelming. To help you in your search, I offer a complimentary 30 minute initial assessment, where you can meet with me online/by telephone and get a feel for how I work and whether I am the right counsellor to join you on your therapeutic journey. This is not a counselling session, rather an opportunity to for us to briefly discuss what is troubling you; what I can offer and mutually assess whether it is right for us to work together.

Ethical and professional

As a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) I adhere to the Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2016) which sets out a code of ethics and guidance for good practice which informs my counselling practice. This ensures that our work together will be of the highest standard with a strong and ethical foundation from which to build. You can find out more information online at www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework

Please feel free to take a walk around my web site, where I hope any further questions you may have will be answered in the following pages. If, however, there is anything you are unsure of, or if you would like to ask me something not covered on my website, please do not hesitate to contact me for a no obligation conversation. My contact details are set out below as well as on my Location and Contact page.

In the meantime, thank you once again and take good care.

Best wishes,

Claire
